Sea Life/Melbourne Aquarium

Skills: Remedial and Civil (expertise in concrete remediation)

Key Purpose: Repair by honey combing/concrete cancer from salt water coming in contact with the concrete super structure.

Time Frame: On going

The majority of the concrete repair works were carried out in live animal enclosures. The animals could not be moved and works carried out in confined spaces in or above the main tank. Construction materials were prevented from falling into the aquarium by using construction method(s) primarily incorporating engineering controls such as pontoons, safety nets and scaffolding to mitigate these risks. There were no disruptions to customer service since all works were completed at night. A strong understanding of working with materials such as Carbon Fibre composites & epoxy for adding strength to structures as well as polyethylene injection for water proofing ensured the successful delivery of the project.
